Activating your intuition

The world can get pretty noisy—full of audible and non-sensorial sounds and distractions that can make you feel disconnected from yourself and others.

When we feel disconnected from our own sense of intuition, it can feel like we’re constantly grasping and dogpaddling throughout the day. This feeling can manifest as a lack of clarity or indecision, anxiety, physical discomfort, and the hesitation to embrace the things that you know deep down are uniquely authentic to you.

But the more you can tune in to your internal compass, the more ease you’ll find within your energetic body. And the more ease you create within your energetic body, the more abundance, grace, and joy you’ll attract on this physical plane.

Famed business leaders and athletes have espoused the saying to “go with your gut” but what does that really mean? And what are they really doing? They’re simply tuning in to the wisdom that already exists within and then proceeding with the confidence to act on that inner knowing.

So how do you connect with your gut feelings?

Like nature, there are many routes to reach the ocean. Figuring out how to develop your intuition is itself an exercise in developing intuition. While there’s no single prescribed way to reconnect with your inner knowing, here are a few modalities that have helped me over the years:

  • Practicing art – writing, singing, drumming, painting, doodling, photography, knitting, baking

  • Movement – dancing, Zumba, yoga, Pilates, walking, floor-sitting, stretching

  • Connecting to nature – skygazing, hiking, ocean-swimming, gardening, apple picking

  • Somatic balancing – acupuncture, massage, oil pulling, infrared sauna

  • Mind-body practices – Reiki/energy work, breathwork, sound healing, talk therapy, couples therapy, EMDR therapy, journaling, hypnosis, EFT tapping, meditation

  • Community healing – volunteering, peaceful parenting, mindful conversing with children and elders
